Kathy Sturch is an artist with long time experience in painting, teaching, and business. Sturch received her M.Ed. from SOSU and continues to study art through workshops, books, and personal exploration of media. She works with varied media & subjects but is mostly recognized for her watercolor portraits and florals. Challenging herself to work in new areas, she has recently been painting the southeastern Oklahoma landscape. Her paintings are rich with glazes of transparent color that creates deep reflective darks and lights.
“Painting opens doors of discovery and allows me to see the unseen. If I have to put a name to my style of painting it would Realistic Impressionism. Improving on the beauty of nature is beyond me. I leave that to the Creator. But I do see myself as one who looks beyond the visual surface to the inner spirit and that’s what my paintings are all about. A moment in time, a stage set, eyes focused on the main actor, and the audience seeks to interpret the meaning of the scene.”
“Every day God gives me a new day, and I just want to explore what He sets before me. My goal is to glorify God with my life and my painting.”
Kathy is a member of Texoma Arts Association, Creative Arts Center of Bonham and is registered with the Choctaw Nation Artist Registry. She has won numerous area and regional awards. Her paintings hang in private collections throughout the United States.
